Bright Bear Yoga, Thomas WV Sept 9, 16, 23, 30
Do you ever struggle with tight hamstrings, sore knees, foot pain, crimped neck/headaches, back pain or tight hips? This four week series focuses on a yoga practice for aging well and managing pain using modern yoga. Come to one or all of the workshops. Good for beginners and people who want to look at their yoga practice differently. It is a combination of carefully cultivated practices from Sheri's advanced training in Integrated Positional Therapy(IPT), Mindfulness Meditation, Hatha Yoga, Yin and Restorative yoga.
Sweet and Slow Hatha Flow
We mindfully flow slowly through a mix of warm-ups, asanas, sun salutations with modifications/variations, and postures designed to build strength and balance in a strong but gentle way. Meditation and Pranaymana (breath work) techniques are interspersed to promote relaxation. This is an all levels class, but best with some yoga experience.
YIN YOGA
Looking to slow down, stretch, and breath? This class is entirely on the floor and focuses on stretching chronically tight muscle groups such as our hip flexors. Yin Yoga is a slow paced style of yoga where poses (asanas) are held for extended periods of time, typically two to five minutes per pose. We warm up gently and intersperse some gentle and restorative yoga. Props (blocks, blankets, straps, bolsters, etc) may be used for added comfort. This class is excellent for active people, beginners, and those who enjoy a quiet, stretchy , calming class. No experience necessary!
YOGA Life Practice
Smart blend of yoga and fitness to target common areas of posture weakness, tension & muscle imbalances. Regain your best body, inside and out. This class focuses on a yoga practice that strengthens weak muscle groups, promotes well being, and provides strategies for pain relief using modern yoga. This class targets tight neck/shoulders, locked hips, and/or low back pain. Very appropriate for people new to yoga or anyone looking to apply yoga in a new way off the mat.
Gentle/Beginner Yoga
Yoga for Beginners (Or those who feel like one) introduces the fundamental principles of alignment and breath work in a flow of postures linked together by the breath. Students will be introduced to yoga postures through step-by-step verbal description and demonstration. Emphasis is placed on student understanding, safety, and stability within each pose. Gradually these poses will be linked together into a gentle flowing sequence. Designed to meet the needs of those new to yoga as well as those seeking continued understanding of basic yoga poses.
RESTORATIVE YOGA
This is a great class to allow your mind and body to fully release and rejuvenate in this slow, stretchy practice. Props are used extensively to allow the body to be in the most comfortable, supported position possible. This class is about slowing down and allowing the body to open through very passive stretching, you may hardly move at all--just gentle yoga between postures. Each pose is held for about 2-8 minutes which allows the muscles to deeply relax while being supported. This class is entirely on the floor.
